Elisha was anointed by Elijah as his successor (1 Kings 19:16-21) and received a double portion of his spirit (2 Kings 2:1-18). He had a long ministry during the reigns of Joram (KJV "Jehoram"), Jehu, Jehoahaz, and Jehoash (KJV 'Joash'), kings of Israel. Scripture records many miracles performed by Elisha, such as providing for a poor widow (2 Kings 4:1-7), restoring a woman's son to life (4:8-37), rescuing a company of prophets from poisonous stew (4:38-41), feeding 100 men (4:42-44), healing Naaman of leprosy (5:1-27), causing an axhead to float (6:1-7), and single-handedly stopping the Aramean army before releasing them (6:8-23). Even after he died, a man being buried touched Elisha's bones and revived (13:20-21). In addition to meeting many needs during his ministry, Elisha also carried on Elijah's work of dismantling the worship of Baal.
